Dress Rehearsal
All routines will be rehearsed on stage at La Plata High School. If you are in the Saturday evening show, your dress rehearsal will be on Friday, June 12th. If you are in the Sunday shows, your dress rehearsal will be on Saturday, June 13th.
Please arrive 15 -20 mins prior to your dancer's scheduled rehearsal time!
- Dancers should proceed directly to the auditorium. Only one parent should accompany their dancer.
- When you arrive, check in with a SSDC Staff Member.
- We ask that you please bring all of your costumes, shoes, accessories, tights, and patience with you. Make-up is not required but we would like for hairstyles to be done for Dress Rehearsal. Call time listed is the time we need those classes to be in the auditorium, dressed in their first costume, and ready to go!
- We will not be able to hold routines to allow for late dancers to join their team onstage. Parent/Child Dancers DO NOT need to be in the outfits they will wear for the Showcase.
- Dancers who are performing in multiple routines should bring their other costumes on a hanger with accessories and shoes.
- Please note that the order for Dress Rehearsal is NOT the same for the Showcase and is not separated by show times. We grouped routines where possible to allow for easy costume changes and to try to get you guys in and out as quickly as possible.
FAQs
What should my dancer bring?
All costumes and dance shoes, of course!
In addition, we recommend the following:
- All hair should be styles as requested by the teacher.
- Lipstick, blush, mascara for any necessary touch ups.
- Safety pins
- Extra pair of new tights (in case of runs)
- Clear liquids to drink. NOTE: Please don't let your dancer eat or drink in their costume
When should I bring my dancer? Where should I go? What should I do?
Dancers need to arrive 1 hour before the show starts.
Dancer MUST arrive dressed in their costume (or first costume, if they have more than one), hair in the appropriate style and makeup applied. Reminder: no jewelry, nail polish, and absolutely no underwear showing under leotard style costumes. If your dancer must wear underwear, it needs to be high leg, bikini style, so that none of it shows beneath the legs of the costume. And absolutely NO patterns as these will often show through the costume. If your dancer plans to wear other undergarments, they should be skintoned with clear straps.
Dancers who are performing in more than one dance should bring their other costume(s) on a hanger, with accessories and shoes. Any dance bags or other items should remain with a parent. NO FOOD OR DRINK (other than water) is allowed BACKSTAGE, in the DRESSING ROOMS, or the AUDITORIUM.
Your dancers will sit with you during the show. One parent will bring their dancer to the back hallway a few numbers before their routine and leave them with SSDC staff and then return to their seat. After your dancer performs, one parent will come back to the back hallway to meet your dancer. You can either choose to change their costume then or later, depending on your preference. We will go over all of this at Rehearsal and will be available to help throughout the weekend! Don't stress!
What if my dancer has more than one dance?
Dancers who have more than one routine should wear their first costume (with hair and makeup complete) and bring the costume, accessories and shoes for their second dance. The costume should be on a hanger with accessories and shoes.
Parents will be responsible for changing their costume in the dressing room or rest room between dances.
How long is the performance? Is there an intermission?
The performances will be between 2-3 hours, including intermission. During intermission, there will be snacks/drinks for sale on a cash-only basis.
Can I take photos or videos during the performance?
Photos during the Showcase are allowed but we kindly request that everyone be respectful of others around them and not block the view with a phone or camera. Flash photography will not be allowed as it distracts the dancers on stage. We will also have a photo spot in the lobby for photos before and after the show!
Videotaping during the Showcase is NOT allowed. We have a professional videographer coming to record the entire Showcase and every dance family will receive a copy of that video to be able to share with friends and family! We know how important it is to be able to look back on this one day and we have you covered!
What about finale?
At the end of the show, all dancers will be invited on stage, wearing their Showcase T-Shirt, to perform in the finale! They can wear their Showcase T-Shirt over their costume, or with black shorts/leggings/skirts/pants. Showcase T-Shirts will be handed out in class the week before Showcase so that you can bring it with you as part of your costumes.
Then when the finale is over, we're going to take a big group photo that we will share with everyone!
